Tuesday morning

Me: What can I do to occupy you while I do this dishes, Lil'Bug?

Lil'Bug: I CANNOT BE OCCUPIED!

Me: Why not?

Lil'Bug: I don't WANT to be occupied!

Me: Ok.

Lil'Bug: Mama? I want to paint. I wan to eat an apple. I want to spin.

Me: Ok. Those things will occupy you.

Lil'Bug: I CANNOT BE OCCUPIED!

I got out the paints, the apple, and turned on some dancing music. And what is she doing? Sobbing inconsolably.

  1. Hey, Iowegans,
I am catching up on many things blog, and yours is included. I know nothing to suggest for an Iowa wonder, except you guys, but as for leaving beloved things behind, know that setting one thing down opens up the space for another. Our lives are successions of times, places, people, things... but you know that wonder girl. You know that.

  2. Also, my biggest thing today was that my 2 year old understood the deeper meaning of occupied as doing something else while I won't be bothered by her. Later, she explained to me that this is what upset her. Wow, do I feel awful.
